The source for obtaining the research papers for our analysis was the Science Citation Index Expanded from the Web of Science. A total of 3546 documents were extracted during the period of 1997-2018. Food science &amp; technology, chemistry (applied and analytical), spectroscopy, and agriculture appeared as the main areas where the articles were published. Most prolific and cited journals were Analytical Methods, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, and Food Chemistry. The co-word analysis showed the relationships between "nanoparticles", which is the central word, and "silver nanoparticles", "delivery systems", and "zinc-nanoparticles". The most productive countries were China (1089 papers), the United States (523), Iran (427), and India (359). The main cited topics deal with the biomedical applications of nanoparticles, its synthesis from plants, and its applications in food science. We evaluated the effects of C. spicatus on gout by assessing activities of antihyperuricemia, anti-gouty arthritis, and analgesia in vivo, and the results indicated that the ethyl acetate fraction shows potential activities. Subsequent phytochemical investigation of this fraction led to the isolation of 32 compounds, consisting of 20 diterpenoids (including the new orthosiphonones E and F), 2 triterpenoids, 6 flavonoids, 2 lignanoids, and 2 phenolic acid derivatives. Pharmacological investigation of the pure compounds in the cellular model of hyperuricemia indicated that 12 compounds could promote the excretion of uric acid at 10 μg/mL, and compounds 3, 4, 5, and 21 had better effects than that of benzbromarone, a famous uricosuric drug. Here, we investigated the influence of the infective stage juveniles (J2) of Meloidogyne javanica in inducing tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) root volatiles and chemotactic effect on conspecifics. In olfactometer assays, J2 avoided the roots of 2-day infected plants but preferred 7-day-infected tomato compared to healthy plants. Chemical analysis showed a 2-7-fold increase in the amounts of monoterpenes emitted from tomato roots infected with M. javanica relative to healthy roots. In further bioassays, the monoterpenes β-pinene, (+)-(2)-carene, α-phellandrene, and β-phellandrene differentially attracted (51-87%) J2 relative to control. Concurrent reduction and increase in the levels of methyl salicylate and (Z)-methyl dihydrojasmonate, respectively, in the root volatiles reduced J2 responses. These results demonstrate that the host plant can alter its root volatile composition to inhibit PPN attack. However, little work has been done to improve the concentration of hydroxycinnamic acids in maize. We evaluated a set of 12 commercially important maize (Zea mays L.) inbred lines and 66 hybrids derived from their crosses for hydroxycinnamic acid concentration in the grain, grain yield, and test weight. The grain was obtained from replicated field experiments, which were conducted for 3 years. Both ferulic acid and p-coumaric acid were found to be highly heritable, and most of the genetic variation was additive. Grain yield and test weight were not correlated with hydroxycinnamic acid concentration. These findings suggest that breeding maize for improved hydroxycinnamic acid concentration is feasible. Maize hybrids with high hydroxycinnamic acid concentrations in the grain could be useful for the production of dietary supplements or all-natural food additives while imparting enhanced resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses during the growing season and grain storage.
